What Is Roku – An Indepth Look At The Future of TV Entertainment

Hello All,Roku-3-left_t

Dan here, and I’m going to give you the 411 on the Roku digital video player.  A cool little box that lets you watch movies and TV shows completely on demand at home right on your television.  With Roku you have over 50,000 viewing choices.  That’s right over 50,000!  Everything from TV shows, to classics, to new releases, many of them in full HD.  If you’re a Netflix subscriber, you can watch all the movies from your instant queue anytime you want, directly on your TV.  This means no more late fees and no more video vending machine trips.  Everything can be seen directly on your TV instantly.

There are currently 5 different options of Roku box available.

All the Roku players come with cables that connect to your TV and a remote control which is very cool.  It’s cool because the remote control is bluetooth.  This means that you can hide the player anywhere and the remote will work just fine since bluetooth doesn’t need line-of-sight to work.  Setup is simple, if you can hook up your DVD player, this will be no problem for you.  Just connect it to your TV and then connect to your internet (either using wireless or wired connection).  It literally takes about 5 minutes.

So How Does it Work?

  1. So, Let’s start with Netflix (since it’s so popular).  With your Netflix subscription you have access to over 12,000 movies and TV shows, many in HD.  You can watch as many movies and TV shows from your instant queue as you want, as often as you want.
  2. Next, Amazon Video On-Demand is also available on the Roku player.  Here you’ll have access to all the latest releases and instead of a subscription like Netflix, you’ll only pay for what you watch.  With Amazon Video On-Demand you’ll have another 40,000 movies and TV shows to choose from.
  3. Another great feature is Roku’s adaptability.  They are always adding new channels. and in a later post I’ll give you the full list of channels offered by Roku.

I don’t think anyone can dispute this is the future of TV entertainment.  There will be no more cable or satellite bills and we can watch every episode of every show whenever we want.  It’s that simple.  Roku is bringing the future forward.  I absolutely love this product and I think you will too.  It’s not expensive, the box start at $49 and and the top end Roku player is $99.   I highly recommend this product and think you’ll get as much enjoyment out of it as I do.

I hope this information is helpful to you.  See you next time.

Imagine Movie Night Reinvented

Here it is.  Finally the answer to all my frustrations over the past 5 years.   Okay.  Let me explain.  I’ve been a loyal subscriber to Netflix for nearly 5 years.  I love the content and all the different movie choices I have to choose from.  In the beginning watching these streaming movies and TV shows on my computer wasn’t much of a problem for me since the technology was new and I was still amazed this was all possible.  But after some time (and a new 52 inch TV) it became a little frustrating watching all these shows on a 13″ laptop.

There was a solution, albeit not exactly a great one.  I connected my laptop to the TV.  At first, like before this was fine.  It worked great.  I was able to watch all this content on the big screen.  I even rediscovered YouTube and a few other sites that have streaming media to offer.  I thought this was so cool.  After a few weeks of connecting and reconnecting my laptop from the TV for various reasons this became annoying as well.

Next up, I was frequenting various video vending machines that deliver DVDs that I would pop into my player and watch.  This of course was not as convenient as streaming movies, but at least I didn’t have to hook up my laptop.  I was also having Netflix deliver the movies to my mailbox.  This is how I’ve been enjoying movies and tv shows up until I discovered this little ingenious device.

Roku is so small, yet so powerful.   I actually have it in the drawer below my TV.  It connects to the remote control via Bluetooth so I don’t need another component sitting out on the TV stand.  I can now watch my Netflix instant movies on my TV without my laptop.  I also found channels that provide YouTube,  Amazon.com offers rentals via streaming movies, Hulu is another cool site that has many different viewing options.  I’m still discovering new channels on this player and I can’t say enough good things about it.  If you love to watch movies and tv shows on demand I really haven’t come across a better product.  My movie night reinvented.  Check it out for yourself, you wont regret it.
